Petroleum for skin care?? Try Valvoline.

Challenge:  Grab the nearest moisturizer to you.  Flip it over, and read the ingredients.   Does it list Petroleum?  You might as well stop by the next gas station, and grab a quart of Valvoline.  Its made with the same thing, and will probably save you some money.

Today, almost all of us come into contact with a derivative of petroleum every day, and not just by putting gas in our cars!  The world is full of products that come from petroleum - gasoline, Styrofoam and lubricating oils....

....and skin care products?  (gross).

Some of the most harmful ingredients that are commonly found in skin care products are petroleum products, and their cost to our health and environment is insurmountable.

Petroleum based ingredients are commonly used in many skin care products. This is because these ingredients can produce an inexpensive cream which has "a nice feel to it", creates a good dermal barrier, and is effective at keeping moisture on ( keyword here is "ON" people, not "IN")  the skin.  In fact, you may not know that mineral oil and petroleum products actually PULL moisture away from the skin, and  have been shown to block the skin's natural ability to moisturize itself, which can contribute to dry skin and chapping even though it is intended to alleviate these conditions.  This effect also robs newly formed cells of moisture, which interferes with normal cell development, slowing down the cell renewal rate and contributing to premature aging of your skin.

By locking moisture against the skin, petroleum sits on the skin’s surface and can potentially block pores and may cause the appearance of pimples because the skin cannot properly breathe.  Furthermore, because of this, it is also known to exacerbate conditions such as dermatitis and acne and prevent the skin from eliminating toxins through the pores.   The use of chemicals such as petroleum can also increase your risk for developing skin cancer, and have been linked to neurological disorders, liver disease, and overall negative skin cell health.

Our Tip: Go ahead - check the ingredients on your foundations, cleansers, and moisturizers. If you see mineral oil or petroleum, you may want to ditch them and look for other products that are crude oil free.  LIKE OURS!

Our skincare products do not contain any petroleum based ingredients. We have researched, and found products with a wonderful base moisturizers containing all natural oils and ingredients, such as aloe vera, shea oil, sunflower oil, and grape seed oil, while being petroleum free!
